The genesis of a global leader from regional politics
Wind energy in Navarra in comparative perspective
Do you have information or documentation to provide?
How was it possible, from a small regional public-private company, for Navarra to lead wind generation in Spain and Europe in barely a decade?
Despite the exceptional nature of wind development in Navarra, to date no attempt has been made to systematically and academically analyze the genesis of the sector, from any of its aspects or its economic, energy, technological or sociological implications.
The general objective of Globalwind is to trace the economic, business and social history of wind energy in the Foral Community of Navarra from its origins to the present, in such a way that it serves as a reference for decision-making regarding energy transition. taking the European, Spanish and regional authorities.

The data prior to 2011 come from the compilation in Rubio-Varas, M. and De la Torre, J. (2020) ‘Production and uses: the minielectric in Navarra, 1986-2018’, in Hydroelectric Power Stations in Navarra (1898-2018 ), Government of Navarra, / Nafarroako Gobernua. (Prince of Viana Institution). pp. 79-91. ISBN 978-84-235-3564-4, which allow disaggregating hydroelectric and wind before 2008 based on data from the Electric Statistics of the Ministry of Industry for generation, but not solar generation that remains mixed with hydraulic until 2006. Before 2002, the thermoelectric power plant in Navarra came mainly from cogeneration in the Potasas and Papelera Española factories. From 2011 to 2020 are data from Red Eléctrica de España for generation and Iberdrola for consumption.
